P0936 A demand in a complaint for damages stated to be in excess of a given amount limits any default judgment to the amount given; in an action alleging several causes of action, all based on the same conduct and all resulting in the same damage, the demand for damages stated in each of cause of action is an aggregate for the entire claim and the maximum amount for which a default judgment can be entered; in an action other than for personal injury or wrongful death, an amount demanded in a separate statement of damages does not raise the limit established by the complaint on the amount that can be awarded as compensatory damages in a default judgment; an amount demanded for punitive damages in a separate statement of damages determines the maximum limit of a default judgment for punitive damages.
