Steven Finz has been director of ADVANCE COLLEGE of Continuing Legal Education since 1992 and is the creator and sole proprietor of Finz's ADVANCE TAPES on California Tort and Personal Injury Law, and of Finz's ADVANCE TAPES on California Civil Procedure, Discovery and Evidence. He is a State Bar of California approved MCLE provider (#1890).
Professor Finz was chair of the Torts Department at Western State University College of Law (now known as Thomas Jefferson School of Law) in San Diego, California until 1990. In addition, he was a member of the adjunct faculty at National University Law School in San Diego. He also served on the faculty of the California Appellate Justices Institute in 2000.

Finz has been a featured speaker at the annual conferences of the California chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates for the past several years. He has been a frequent speaker at conferences of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, and the Sacramento, Visalia, Long Beach, Orange County, and San Diego Bar Associations, as well as many other lawyers' groups.
He is the author of APPELLATE REVIEW, a monthly feature appearing in "The Advocate," published by the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, and has written articles on the law and law-related matters for many other publications.
In addition, Professor Finz is the author and creator of law school study aids used by students throughout the United States. These include SMITH's REVIEW OF TORTS, SMITH's REVIEW OF PRODUCTS LIABILITY, and the FINZ MULTISTATE METHOD, all published by Aspen Publishers, Inc, New York City, a Wolters Kluwer Company. His study tapes titled SUM AND SUBSTANCE OF TORTS, SUM AND SUBSTANCE OF PRODUCTS LIABILITY, SUM AND SUBSTANCE OF ADMINISTRATIVE LAW, and MASTERING MULTIPLE CHOICE are published by West Professional Training Programs, Inc., Santa Monica, CA.
Finz is a well-known bar reviewer, having written and lectured for Josephson's BRC, BAR/BRI, PMBR, and GEORGIA BAR REVIEW between 1979 and 1994.
He attended the Bronx High School of Science and Queens College of the City University of New York. He received the degree of Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 1970, and is a retired member of the New York bar.
