Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE)

Most California State Bar members are required to complete 25 hours of MCLE every three years. Of these, some must be on legal ethics, some on the prevention, detection, and treatment of substance abuse and emotional distress, some on the elimination of bias in the legal profession, and the rest on material of significant current intellectual or practical content related to legal subjects and the legal profession. Half the required MCLE credit can be taken in the form of self-study. Any activity longer than one hour must be accompanied by substantive printed materials or their equivalent on computer medium.

Listening to Finz's ADVANCE TAPES on California Tort and Personal Injury and Finz's ADVANCE TAPES on California Civil Evidence, Discovery and Procedure qualifies as a general, self-study activity. Lawyers are required to keep their own records of compliance, which are subject to audit by The State Bar. Credit for listening to each tape or audio CD can be taken only once, and only during the compliance period in which the activity was completed by the member.
